Your Journey Day by Day
Day 1: Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle & The Bavarian Alps
Your journey begins with a comfortable pickup from your accommodation in Munich.
As we leave the city behind, we head south toward the breathtaking landscapes of the Bavarian Alps. Along the way, I’ll introduce you to the fascinating history of Bavaria and the legendary story of Ludwig II of Bavaria, the mysterious king whose extraordinary castles continue to inspire visitors from around the world.
Our destination today is the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
Perched high above the valley near the village of Hohenschwangau, this extraordinary castle looks like it belongs in a dream. Inspired by medieval legends and romantic ideals, Neuschwanstein has become one of the most famous castles in the world.
We’ll explore the castle and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding Alps before spending the evening in the charming Alpine town of Füssen.
The evening is free for you to relax, enjoy dinner, and take in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Day 2: Füssen to Augsburg – Bavaria’s Historic Cities
After a relaxing Bavarian breakfast, we begin our journey north along the legendary Romantic Road.
Our destination today is Augsburg, one of Germany’s oldest cities and once one of Europe’s most important trading centers.
Here we explore the historic old town, including the magnificent Town Hall and the famous Fuggerei, the world’s oldest social housing complex still in use today.
Augsburg’s elegant squares, canals, and Renaissance buildings make it one of Bavaria’s most fascinating historic cities.
The evening is free to explore the city’s charming streets or enjoy a traditional Bavarian dinner.
Day 3: Augsburg, Harburg Castle & Dinkelsbühl
Today we continue deeper into the heart of the Romantic Road.
Our first stop is the spectacular Harburg Castle, dramatically perched above the Wörnitz River valley. This remarkably well-preserved medieval fortress offers an incredible glimpse into Germany’s medieval past.
We then continue to one of Europe’s most unusual towns: Nördlingen, a perfectly circular medieval town built inside a 15-million-year-old meteor crater.
Later we arrive in the enchanting town of Dinkelsbühl, widely considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Germany.
With its colorful houses, ancient towers, and cobblestone streets, Dinkelsbühl feels like stepping back in time.
The evening is yours to explore this magical town.
Day 4: Dinkelsbühl to Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Today we travel to one of the most famous towns on the Romantic Road: Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
This beautifully preserved medieval town is famous for its half-timbered houses, ancient city walls, and charming cobblestone streets.
We’ll explore Rothenburg’s highlights, including the famous Plönlein, Market Square, and the impressive medieval town walls.
Rothenburg is especially magical in the evening once the day-trip visitors have left.
Tonight you can enjoy a relaxed dinner, explore the quiet streets, or join the famous Night Watchman tour.
Day 5: Rothenburg to Würzburg – Franconian Wine Country
Today we continue north through rolling countryside and vineyards toward the elegant city of Würzburg.
This historic city is home to the magnificent Würzburg Residence, one of Europe’s most spectacular Baroque palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Würzburg is also the heart of Franconian wine culture, surrounded by beautiful vineyards overlooking the Main River.
After exploring the palace and the charming old town, the evening is free to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Franconian wine country.
Day 6: Würzburg to Frankfurt – From Medieval Germany to the Modern Skyline
On our final day, we follow the Main River toward Frankfurt.
Frankfurt offers a fascinating contrast to the medieval towns we’ve explored. As Germany’s financial capital, the city is known for its impressive skyline, yet its historic heart remains beautifully preserved.
We’ll visit the charming Römerberg, Frankfurt’s historic old town square, where colorful timber-framed houses and historic buildings tell the story of the city’s long history.
After exploring the old town, our Romantic Road adventure comes to a close.
