If you’ve been exploring my website, you may have noticed that I only offer a carefully selected collection of private tours. That’s no coincidence—it’s a conscious decision.
As a one-man business, I personally guide every tour myself. I don’t employ other guides, and I never hand my guests over to someone else. I’d much rather offer a smaller number of exceptional experiences than a long list of tours that I can’t personally deliver to the standard my guests deserve.
Over the years, however, many travelers have asked me for recommendations for experiences that fall outside my own tours. Whether it’s a guided visit to Dachau Memorial Site, a walking tour through Munich, a food or beer experience, a boat cruise, or another unique activity, I’m always happy to help point people in the right direction.

Augsburg
Just a short journey from Munich, Augsburg is one of Germany’s oldest cities and a wonderful choice if you’re looking to discover a quieter and often overlooked side of Bavaria.
With its beautiful Renaissance architecture, charming Old Town, impressive town hall and the famous Fuggerei – the world’s oldest social housing complex still in use – Augsburg has far more to offer than many visitors expect.
Here are a few Augsburg experiences I personally recommend.
Bamberg
Bamberg is one of those places that seems almost made for exploring on foot. Its beautifully preserved Old Town, winding lanes, historic breweries and riverside houses give the city a very special atmosphere.
And if you enjoy beer, you’re in for a treat. Bamberg is famous for its unique brewing culture and especially its traditional Rauchbier – smoked beer – which is certainly something worth trying at least once.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to experience Bamberg.
Berchtesgaden
Berchtesgaden is very close to my heart and easily one of the most beautiful corners of Bavaria. Surrounded by dramatic Alpine peaks, it’s home to Lake Königssee, the Eagle’s Nest, Berchtesgaden National Park and centuries of fascinating history.
There’s much more here than can fit into a single day, which makes additional experiences especially worthwhile if you’re staying in the area for a little longer.
Here are a few Berchtesgaden experiences I’m happy to recommend.
Füssen
Most travelers come to Füssen because of the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle – and understandably so. But this lovely part of Bavaria deserves a little more time than simply taking a photograph of the castle and leaving again.
The historic town of Füssen, nearby lakes, Alpine landscapes and King Ludwig II’s extraordinary castles make this one of Bavaria’s most beautiful regions.
If you’d like to explore a little more, these are some experiences worth considering.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen
If mountains are part of your Bavarian dream, Garmisch-Partenkirchen should definitely be on your list.
Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, beautiful Lake Eibsee, the dramatic Partnach Gorge and countless Alpine viewpoints are all right on the doorstep. Depending on the season, you’ll find everything from hiking and cable-car adventures to winter activities and spectacular mountain scenery.
Here are a few experiences that can help you discover even more of this beautiful Alpine region.
Munich
Munich is much more than Marienplatz, the Glockenspiel and the Hofbräuhaus.
It’s a city of royal history, beautiful architecture, traditional markets, neighborhood beer gardens, wonderful food and, of course, a beer culture unlike anywhere else. Some of my favorite Munich experiences are the ones that allow you to slow down, explore on foot and discover the stories and traditions behind the city.
I offer a few private Munich experiences myself, but there are plenty of other excellent ways to discover my hometown.
Here are some Munich tours and experiences I personally recommend.
Nuremberg
Nuremberg combines one of Germany’s most atmospheric Old Towns with an incredibly rich and complex history.
You can wander beneath the Imperial Castle, explore medieval streets, taste the city’s famous little Nürnberger sausages and learn about Nuremberg’s important role during the Holy Roman Empire as well as the darker chapters of the 20th century.
It’s a city where having a knowledgeable local guide can add enormously to what you see.
Here are a few Nuremberg experiences I believe are particularly worthwhile.
Regensburg
Regensburg is one of my favorite Bavarian cities for simply wandering and enjoying the atmosphere.
Its UNESCO-listed Old Town is filled with colorful historic buildings, narrow streets, traditional restaurants and beautiful squares, while the famous Stone Bridge stretches across the Danube beneath the towers of the old city.
It feels wonderfully authentic and is compact enough to discover at a relaxed pace.
Here are some great ways to experience Regensburg and its fascinating history.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Few places capture the romantic image of old Germany quite like Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
Its medieval walls, half-timbered houses, towers and cobbled streets make it one of the most photogenic towns along Germany’s Romantic Road. Yes, it’s famous – but once you start exploring beyond the busiest streets, there is still plenty of genuine charm to discover.
And when the day visitors disappear in the evening, Rothenburg becomes even more magical.
Here are a few experiences that can make your visit to Rothenburg even more memorable.
Würzburg
Würzburg is a wonderful introduction to Franconia and one of Bavaria’s most interesting cities for anyone who enjoys history, architecture and wine.
The magnificent Würzburg Residence, vineyards rising above the city, the Old Main Bridge and the Franconian wine taverns create a completely different atmosphere from Munich and the Bavarian Alps.
A glass of local Franconian wine overlooking the Main River isn’t the worst way to spend an afternoon either.
