Why I Created Munich by Food
If there’s one question I’m asked almost every single week, it’s this:
“Sepp, where should we eat in Munich?”
And honestly…
I absolutely love that question.
As a proud Bavarian, food has always been much more than simply satisfying your hunger. It’s about sitting together, sharing stories, raising a glass, and enjoying recipes that have been passed down through generations.

Whether it’s a crispy pork knuckle with a freshly poured Augustiner beer, a perfectly roasted duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings, a tender Wiener Schnitzel, or a warm Kaiserschmarrn for dessert—Bavarian cuisine is all about comfort, tradition, and unforgettable flavors.
After years of guiding guests through my beautiful hometown, I realized that recommending restaurants had almost become part of every tour.
Some guests wanted authentic beer halls.
Others were looking for romantic fine dining.
Some wanted the best schnitzel.
Others simply asked,
“Where do the locals actually eat?”
At first, I tried to answer those questions on The Bavarian Guide website.
But I quickly realized something.
Munich’s food scene deserves far more than just one page.

That’s exactly why I created Munich by Food.
Instead of publishing a short list of ten or twenty restaurants, I wanted to build an entire website dedicated to one of my favorite topics:

Why I Don’t Publish “The 10 Best Restaurants in Munich”
Every traveler is different.
Some are celebrating a honeymoon.
Others are traveling with children.
Some are looking for Michelin-star dining.
Others simply want the best schnitzel in town.
That’s why I don’t believe there is one single list of “the best restaurants.”
Instead, I prefer helping you find the best restaurant for you.

Munich has hundreds of fantastic restaurants.
Unfortunately, it also has plenty of places that survive almost entirely on tourists.

Food has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and I truly believe it’s one of the best ways to experience Bavarian culture.
