Your Journey Day by Day

Day 1: Lake Königssee, Alpine Beauty & Salt Mine Adventure

Your adventure begins with a comfortable pickup from your Munich accommodation. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic drive through the breathtaking Bavarian Alps.

Soon we arrive in the heart of Berchtesgaden National Park, home to one of Germany’s most spectacular natural wonders — Lake Königssee.

Surrounded by towering cliffs and pristine forests, this glacial lake is famous for its incredible emerald-green water and dramatic Alpine setting.

We’ll board a quiet electric-powered wooden boat and glide across the crystal-clear water deep into the heart of the Alps. Along the way, the boat captain demonstrates the famous Königssee echo, where the surrounding mountains reflect the sound back across the lake.

Our stop is the iconic St. Bartholomew’s Church, a tiny pilgrimage chapel nestled against the dramatic backdrop of the Watzmann mountain range.

After returning from the lake, we’ll enjoy a traditional Bavarian lunch at one of my favorite local restaurants, surrounded by beautiful Alpine scenery.

In the afternoon we visit one of the region’s most fascinating attractions — the historic Berchtesgaden Salt Mine. Here you’ll dress like a miner, slide down wooden miner slides, cross an underground salt lake, and discover the 500-year-old history of salt mining in Bavaria.

Later in the day we check into the beautiful Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden, a luxurious Alpine retreat offering spectacular mountain views.

The evening is free for you to enjoy — relax at the spa, enjoy dinner at the hotel, or simply take in the peaceful Alpine surroundings.

Day 2: WWII History & The Eagle’s Nest

After a delicious Bavarian breakfast at the hotel, we begin the day exploring the historical side of Berchtesgaden.

Our first stop is the Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg, an important museum that provides deep insight into the region’s role during World War II.

From here we continue to one of the most famous historic sites in the Alps.

During the summer months we visit the legendary Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), perched high above the mountains at 1,834 meters (6,017 feet). A special mountain road and historic brass elevator lead us up to this remarkable building, where breathtaking panoramic views stretch across the Bavarian Alps.

During the winter season, when the Eagle’s Nest road is closed, we instead explore the historic Obersalzberg area, including the fascinating underground bunker system used during the Nazi era.

Before leaving Berchtesgaden, we’ll enjoy one final traditional Bavarian lunch at a scenic Alpine restaurant, taking in the mountain views one last time.

In the afternoon we begin our scenic drive back through the Alps, returning you comfortably to Munich.
