My (Sepp’s) Restaurant Insider-Tips for Bavarian Food
What could please the Bavarian heart more than a juicy roast pork, a crispy roast duck, a delicious Wiener schnitzel or a traditional pork knuckle? In Munich you will find everything from traditional home cooking to cleverly interpreted Bavarian specialties that will delight every gourmet. Here I share with you my favorite restaurants in Munich old town, where the food is not only hearty, but where the taste is simply unbeatable.
Weisses Bräuhaus im Tal
When people in Munich talk about traditional hospitality, they probably think of the inn that is popularly known as the “Weisses Bräuhaus”. This inn is a true institution in Munich and is considered the cradle of Schneider Weisse.
This is where the highest level of “Excellent Bavarian Cuisine” and “Excellent Beer Culture”, both official seals of the Bavarian gourmet culture, come together. “Hardly any award could suit us better.”
Augustiner Stammhaus
The “Augustiner Stammhaus” in Munich’s pedestrian zone offers traditional Bavarian cuisine. In addition to classics such as “Roast young pork from the neck ridge with potato dumplings and red cabbage”, the menu also includes unusual dishes such as “Zander fillet, fried in butter, on leaf spinach and pearl barley risotto”. The vegetarian options are also very popular.
Thanks to its central location near Munich's Stachus, the “Augustiner Stammhaus” restaurant is easy to reach by subway, tram and bus, making it easy to visit even without a car.

Der Pschorr
The “Der Pschorr” is located in the heart of Munich on the Viktualienmarkt, the well-known center of Munich’s old town, and is a popular meeting place for fans of Bavarian tavern culture.
Here we serve our guests “home on a plate” – fresh Bavarian cuisine with regional products and specialties every day. We are convinced that we use local ingredients and thus support local agriculture.
In “Der Pschorr” beer culture is lived and loved. Beer tapped from chilled wooden barrels is not only a rarity, but also requires a lot of care and effort. Munich brewing art, stick ice for the cool storage of the oak barrels and specially pre-chilled glasses guarantee freshness and full aroma until the last sip.
