Bring Bavaria Into Your Kitchen
Discover Authentic Bavarian Recipes with Munich by Food
One of the things I hear most often from my guests at the end of a tour is:
“Sepp… how can I recreate this at home?”
Whether it’s a perfectly roasted Schweinebraten, fluffy Kaiserschmarrn, homemade Obatzda, or the famous WeiĂźwurst breakfast, many visitors fall in love with Bavarian cuisine during their trip—and naturally want to enjoy those flavors long after they’ve returned home.
The good news?
You don’t have to travel back to Munich to experience authentic Bavarian cooking.
More Than Just Recipes
Food has always been one of the most important parts of Bavarian culture.
Our recipes have been passed down through generations, often changing only slightly from one family to the next. They’re built around simple ingredients, honest cooking, and the idea that the best meals are the ones shared with family and friends.
Every dish tells a story.
From hearty farmhouse classics to recipes traditionally served during Christmas, Easter, Oktoberfest, or family celebrations, Bavarian cuisine reflects centuries of history, tradition, and regional pride.
Cook Like a Bavarian
That’s exactly why I created the recipe section on Munich by Food.
Instead of simply listing ingredients, I wanted to create recipes that help you understand the traditions behind each dish while making them easy to recreate in your own kitchen.
Whether you’re an experienced home cook or trying Bavarian cuisine for the very first time, you’ll find detailed recipes, cooking tips, and step-by-step instructions inspired by authentic family cooking.
From Breakfast to Dessert
You’ll discover recipes for many of Bavaria’s best-loved dishes, including:
- Traditional Bavarian starters
- Homemade Obatzda
- Soups and seasonal specialties
- Roast pork (Schweinebraten)
- Wiener Schnitzel
- Dumplings and hearty side dishes
- Käsespätzle
- Pretzels and bakery favorites
- Apple Strudel
- Kaiserschmarrn
- Traditional cakes and desserts
And this is only the beginning.
New recipes are added regularly, allowing you to continue discovering the wonderful flavors of Bavaria from wherever you are in the world.
Why I Created Munich by Food
During my tours, I love introducing guests not only to Bavaria’s castles, mountains, and history—but also to its incredible food.
Over the years, I received countless emails asking questions like:
- “Can you send me your Obatzda recipe?”
- “How do I make proper Bavarian dumplings?”
- “What’s the secret behind a perfect Schweinebraten?”
- “Do you know a good Kaiserschmarrn recipe?”
Eventually, I realized that one or two recipes on The Bavarian Guide simply weren’t enough.
Bavarian cuisine deserves its own home.
That’s why I launched Munich by Food—a website dedicated entirely to authentic Bavarian recipes, local restaurants, cooking tips, food traditions, and everything that makes Munich’s culinary scene so special.

👉 Discover Authentic Bavarian Recipes
Whether you’re preparing a traditional Bavarian dinner for your family, impressing friends with homemade pretzels, or simply missing the flavors of your last trip to Munich, I hope these recipes inspire you to keep Bavaria alive at your table.
One Last Thing…
For me, Bavaria has never been just about fairy-tale castles, breathtaking Alpine scenery, or world-famous beer gardens.
It’s also about the smell of a roast slowly cooking in the oven on a Sunday afternoon.
The sound of family and friends gathering around the dinner table.
Fresh pretzels still warm from the bakery.
And recipes that have been lovingly passed down from one generation to the next.
Those are the memories that stay with us.
My hope is that every recipe on Munich by Food allows you to recreate a small piece of Bavaria in your own home—and perhaps inspires you to visit us again one day.
Until then…
Viel SpaĂź beim Kochen… and as we say in Bavaria: An Guadn!
Servus,
Sepp
